All right, here is an item that has made me a very significant amount of gold since the implement of achievements: Cat Carrier (Black Tabby). One thing to note right off the bat is that this is NOT a strategy that can be used by an alliance toon because the mobs that drop this item are friendly to alliance players. So alliance players on a PVP realm, sorry but this one isn't for you. Also, the mobs that you will farm for this strategy are around level 30 so you need to make sure you have a toon that can survive dealing with numerous level 30 mobs at once.
This item drops from numerous mobs at Amberstill in Silverpine Forest (Coordinates 63.5, 63.3) and unfortunately has only a .1% drop rate. That means that you will roughly nab one of these every 1000 mobs. Not exactly worth your time especially when other pets with the same drop rate sell for more. So why am I suggesting that this is easy money? Well, along with the three different types of mobs that can be found in this area there is a rare spawn named Dalaran Spellscribe. This mob has nearly a 20% drop rate for the cat carrier! The easiest way to find the mob is to create a very simple macro:

The Spellscribe can spawn in any of the three houses in Amberstill so be cautious if there are other toons in the area looking for it. Now this rare spawn has a pretty short respawn timer (something like 3 hours approx.) and therefore can be killed many times during your playtime, especially during a long farming or leveling session.
The biggest problem with farming this mob is of course travel. Going back and forth between Northrend or even Orgrimmar would be a hassle. So the easiest way to do this is of course to take a high level alt that you don't tend to play much and leave him camped at the gates. If you are like me and don't play a Death Knight, take the three hours it takes to do Death Knight starters and then just plop him at Amberstill. Even if you aren't a serious camper and even if you aren't paying attention to your timer you can still nab this cat carrier every once in awhile simply by checking your farm toon when you first log on. It literally takes 30 seconds. Log on, Hit Macro, Kill mob if it is up, log off, get on the toon you really wanted to play. I would also suggest doing the same when you log off for the night. The time commitment is very small and the item is a great seller.
So bottom line is of course that this baby sells incredibly well on the neutral AH. According to thottbot.com this item sells for an average of 1200g! That's quite a profit for the incredibly minimal amount of time it takes to check for this mob. I have made almost 15,000g selling these on the AH in just a few months!
Well, that does it for this trick. Hopefully you have just as much luck and reward from this trick as I have. Have a great day and good farming!
